Peer Assisted Learning group in Chapel Hill

Hi! We hope everyone is staying well and healthy. We are high school students in Chapel Hill. While practicing social distancing due to COVID-19, the idea of creating an online peer learning support group came to us. We named it PAL, which stands for Peer Assisted Learning. We all need some help with our learning, so PAL is for students to support each other, especially during the school closure. Here are the basics, and together, we can improve as we learn from doing it.

What is PAL:

PAL (Peer Assisted Learning) is a friendly peer learning support platform to provide peer tutoring through online video sessions hosted by students, open to any students interested in session topics. Initially, we will cover Math 1, 2, 3 and Precalculus, and may later expand to other subjects as we go along.

How to participate in PAL:

PAL sessions are conducted in video meetings hosted through Zoom (free version). The sessions are announced and updated in the sign-up list below. Please look for the session date/time and sign up from there. A confirmation email will be sent, including the meeting link. Participants can post questions to the entire group through screen share, or just send them to the host by private chat during the session. In addition to reviewing/answering the questions from participants, the host will also introduce practice topics/questions corresponding to each specific subject/concept. Each PAL session is for 45 minutes. There may be some learning curve, and let's cooperate to make it work for all involved. **Parent/Guardian consent is required for signup/participation. PAL sessions are supervised by adult volunteer(s) who may end any session in case of any disruption or other concerns.**

We look forward to effective peer learning time through PAL! For questions or comments, please email: chapelhillpal@gmail.com

PAL will announce the new schedule and signup form soon.

About the Organizers:

Ben Li (an NCSSM junior) and Bo Chi (an ECHHS sophomore) have been friends since preschool. They both love learning. They were MathCounts teammates at Smith Middle School and members of ECHHS math club. They welcome other students to join the peer learning support through PAL!
